Here's the download figures for the whi music site for the first six months of 2009, which i publish here as many of you are involved in these.
whi004: a present from the pickpocket - phil hargreaves & lee noyes: 62 downloads (57flac, 5MP3)
whi005: Blind Chaos Free Dada: 41 downloads (38flac, 3MP3)
whi006: Friday Morning Everywhere - phil hargreaves & glenn weyant: 64 downloads (60flac, 4MP3)
whi007: Freejazz.org sampler vol one: 18 downloads (all MP3)
whi008: Freejazz.org sampler vol two: 16 downloads (all MP3)
whi009: musick for two machines, barry chabala & phil hargreaves 8 downloads (3flac, 5MP3)
whi010: imperfect silence: 27 downloads (all MP3)
i've arrived at the 'download' figure by simply dividing the Mb of downloads for the files by the number that make up the entire album, so i can't comment on whether many people downloaded the entire thing, or maybe lots of people took a couple of tracks each. encouraging, nevertheless, i'd say.

they are getting smarter, you're right.
i've taken the spam link out of this, but i found it disturbing: it seems to me that it's been written by a real person, probably without English as a first language, so we seem to have moved on to spam sweatshops, in the same way people are paid buttons to build up credits in World of Warcraft and such.
future posts like this are getting deleted, but this was, as your man says, 'different one'.

this was roughly my thought process - it looks kinda legit. but the '642-974' bit was a html'd link to an exam-passing site. so it looks like an attempt to lift that site in Google by spraying links around bulletin boards. but the only way (s)he could have heard FME and known it had lyrics was by downloading it, during which process they'd have been looking at said lyrics on the same web page.
if this were a busy site with 100+ posts a day, that'd go unnoticed, i think. however, i don't want to spend oodles of time discussing spammers, so future ones get bombed uncommented.

tho it does make it easier to block them both. For the record, mr/ms Sambrees was a member for 3hrs and 32 minutes, just to point up the efficiency of the moderating system. In fact, if Mr Magee hadn't posted this, there'd be no trace of them by now.
