Having a trawl through the dustier sections of my shelves...
Abdul Wadud - By Myself - Bisharra 101
Solo cello from Mr Wadud in 1977, which I remember being quite taken by when it first appeared. Holds up well - it's a pity that the planned follow-ups never appeared and that we seem to have lost Mr Wadud to the performing and recording world.
Anyone else care to recommend other buried treasures?

Submitted by marad on Mon, 2007-11-12 18:01.I've just finished upgrading a number of site features. Probably you won't notice many of these, but I'm sure many will be happy that the Recent Comments links finally work properly for comments sections that extend over a page. Please let us know about any bugs you find so that we can get them fixed quickly. Thanks for being part of the freejazz.org community!

Looking to play Europe in the spring......venues, people to play/hang with etc.
Submitted by markekaylor on Wed, 2007-10-17 13:05.Folks-
Hammer of Hathor (a project of Mark E Kaylor and Heather K Vergotis) will be travelling to Europe for several months at least in the spring. We're from Portland, Oregon.
We're currently booking some festivals and looking into any information we can find on venues etc, via online resources and from friends etc.
We play music that can and will go over in settings as varied as a cafe, a punk show in the basement of a house, someones living room, or an actual venue with a stage.
A Couple of Recent William Parker CDs
Submitted by dick on Thu, 2007-10-11 01:25.About time I did a bit more writing - so here are some comments on a couple of recent WP CDs...
The Inside Songs of Curtis Mayfield (Rai Trade - 2004)
A variation on Parker's mid-2000s performing quartet, adding Dave Burrell on piano, Sabir Mateen and Darryl Foster on reeds (replacing Rob Brown) and with Leena Conquest and Amiri Braka vocalising - Parker, Drake and Barnes remain.

i'm organizing my annual 12 hour show on oct 27 (see recent announcements or calender). I'm do this in order to create some hoopla about free music and to reach out to more people. To let the media know that there exists something called free jazz & free music. this time it's rather big, with live performances and all, and happening at a big venue(Le Quai in Angers), which means more people, passers-buy, sunday afternoon strollers. it's free and open to public.

Playing Free all over the world...
Submitted by Paolo Cruciani on Tue, 2007-10-02 02:07.Hi all!
Some "simple" questions, expecially for those who play free music:
1)what instrument(s) do you play?
2)where are you from?
3)is it easy in your place to find other players who want to play free?
4)What is more important in order to play free? The technique or the feeling?
My personal answers:
1) I have studied (a little) the double bass but I enjoy to play (somehow) the trumpet and flugelhorn.
2)I'm from Rome, Italy.
3)NO. I must play alone at home!
Freejazz.org sampler volume two
Submitted by phil hargreaves on Fri, 2007-09-28 07:58.the original sampler thread has gone all messy, posts about the two volumes are all mixed up together, and not all the postings survived the transfer, so we're starting again here. the old thread can be read here.
if you're new to the site, the sampler is where the regular denizens of freejazz.org walk their walk: it pulls together tracks contributed by us, and presents them to the world www.freejazz.whi music.co.uk
Where to go to Grad School for improvisation??
Submitted by jacobrexzimmerman on Thu, 2007-09-20 16:03.I am currently a 4th year undergrad student at the New England Conservatory. I play alto saxophone and have studied with Joe Morris, Anthony Coleman, Allan Chase, and many other teachers at NEC. I'm very passionate about a wide variety of musics, and am especially interested in studying improvisation and composition. I love being in school and am looking for a place that is comparable to NEC, but offers some different perspectives. Being a big fan of Anthony Braxton, Wesleyan University is definitely interesting, but their graduate program doesn't really suit my main interests.
