CECIL TAYLOR NEW PROJECT

At almost 81 yeasr old maestro Cecil Taylor doesn't stop to create. He's now involved in a project "Diction and Contra Diction" . He wants to inlcude on this a groovy band. Last 15th January the maestro was at the Knitting Factory to check out guitarist Gary Lucas playing.

He liked the way "God and Monsters" grooved and had the idea to invite Gary Lucas to perform together on this new project including his music, poetry and rock stuff!. Awesome!!!

Marc E. Mention In The New Yorker

Saw in the New Yorker this week: "The avant free-jass drummers Marc Edwards and Weasel Walter team up in their group with an energetic percussive force" for a gig at the Knitting Factory.

WORLD WIDE APPEAL from Maya Homburger and Barry Guy to set up a fund for ERHARD HESSLING

announcement:

Dear all,

this appeal goes to musicians who have worked closely with Erhard over the last ten years, to musicians and friends who know him , to organisers, clubs, festivals and to all the fans of improvised music who have enjoyed a variety of events thanks amongst others to Erhard’s management, commitment and first of all love for the music and the musicians.

Some of you might know, and to some it might come as a surprise that he is in a crisis situation right now, which needs to be sorted out URGENTLY.

For a variety of reasons, also related to Erhard’s severe illness three years ago and also linked to the general financial crisis, which makes it more difficult to set up extended tours, find funding, cheap travel etc. etc., he has got himself into a situation, where he cannot even pre-fund upcoming tours and sadly has large accumulated debts.

He needs urgently some funds, to be able to clear all debts and to start again, probably only part time as a manager, but also exploring new areas.

We feel very strongly, that this is a moment, where we all: musicians and audience a like should pull together and collect enough funds for Erhard to get out of his frightening situation.

Erhard has been an invaluable manager behind the scenes and is directly responsible for some of the most amazing musical experiences for musicians on tour, for audiences in clubs and in many festivals during the last years.

Now, that he needs help, please make a gesture - small or large. With many joining in, it will add up to a substantial sum, which we can then hand over to Erhard.

As it happens, we still have a Euro bank account in Ireland, which we were just about to close. But in the hope that hundreds of people might want to pay in their contributions, we would keep it open until we are in Ireland in February.

At this point, we would close it, and collect the cash for Erhard.
The main reason behind this: to avoid taxation or any other silly charges.

If there are any specific questions, please send us an e-mail on :
info@maya-recordings.com

Ideally, you send money directly, and please as soon as possible to the account below, either from personal funds, or from the proceeds of benefit concerts, or from your next CD sales on tour or whatever.

Every little bit will help. We are hoping for MANY people to join this fund raising action.

THANKS for your help !!!
Kind greetings from both of us
Maya and Barry

Listening to Free Jazz/Free Improvisation

the following was posted on the 'what content type?' explanatory page, a habit that doesn't endear you to moderators, and which i've put a stop to.

I would not like to start a discussion [sorry, Cyrille - phil], but rather participate on the listening-experience of the people who read the comments and care to comment.

Invasion of the Undead

anyone logging on over the last few days will have noticed a bit of a leitmotif running thru recent posts, with a particular emphasis on online medications to cure erectile disfunction (something i've never had. Touch wood.).

Sorry about that. Normally, i weed these people out after around 6 hours, so they don't get to do much damage, but i've had swine flu like everyone else in the UK (quarter of a century of not eating them and the bastards give me flu. There's nothing so ungrateful as pigs...), and i've only risen, rather unsteadily, from my bed of pain this morning.

Kaoru Abe

H

I'm wondering if there are any videos out there of Kaoru Abe besides what's on youtube? He's my favourite saxophonist of all time.
Also would like to know what you guys think of his style.

Thanks
Paddy

Sirone - 28 September 1940 - 22 October 2009

announcement:

Reports coming in that Sirone (aka Norris Jones) has died.

sources

How are people getting their music these days? People have been harping on about the death of the CD for ages now, but what I'd like to know is what is your main 'source' for the music that you listen to?
